‘Be still and know that I AM God’ – Psalm 46:10
Meditating this morning on silence of spirit and mind, these words came to mind. As things jumble around in my head and heart, God speaks, “hush, be still and know…”
This is arguably my favorite verse in all Scripture – well, maybe a top 2 or 3 tie. It is for sure my favorite Psalm by far – which says a lot cause there are some great Psalms and passages.
As I sat in the attempted silence of the pre-dawn morning (attempted as the world strove to make noise and I fought for silence), these words came to heart and started rattling around over the noise.
I paused, reflecting that this is my favorite verse and comes to mind most easily not because I love the words and it’s easy to remember, but because God knows how much I need to take these words to heart. God knows how much I need to focus on this as a primary lesson in my life. God constantly reminds me that I need to focus upon, hear and obey these words.
This is a lesson, and request of God, in both trust and obedience.
“Be still and know that I AM God”
To hear these words and repeat them is to obey them. To obey these words is to trust in the truth of what they say. To trust them is then to obey and hear them.
As these words settle in deeply to the soul, even the noisy world and its stresses the scream out to steal your focus because silent. The raging storms become calm, even as they still rage and slap water on your face.
I know – if I am still, if I still my heart, mind and body of the world’s worries and fears, God’s Presence and peace will shine into my soul. He will give peace to my mind and heart. All the worldly worries take a backseat to the fact that God is God.
And, He loves me…
It is in the stillness I hear these words.
