Who does God want us to be?
The church gives us a pretty straightforward astonishing answer. We are called to be saints. We aren’t just called to be a slightly better person or someone who has things mostly under control. We’re called to be saints.
Does this mean I’m supposed to have a holy card with my picture on it? Will there be a church named after me someday? Well, chances are we won’t all be canonized saints, but we are all called to be purified by God in a radical way.
Now I can already hear your reactions. I can’t be a saint. Don’t you know all the sins I’m dealing with? Don’t you know the challenges I face every day? Don’t you know I’m a sinner?
Actually, I do know. My life feels crazy sometimes too. And for years, I’ve taken up the fight to become Saint Edward. I know it’s difficult. The struggle is real. The Road of Faith is long and full of potholes covered in mud.
But here’s the truth. Sainthood isn’t just for mystics and martyrs or for people who grew up holy and never made mistakes. It’s for all of us.
And I have good news for you. We won’t be making this journey alone. The Blessed Mother and the saints walk with you. Your guardian angel never leaves your side.
But, something even greater is with you – Divine Mercy. Jesus in His Divine Mercy, His greatest attribute, is always available to you. All you need do is trust – trust and fall into this great ocean of mercy which is the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Jesus is very clear – those who trust in His mercy get it – period, exclamation point. And, He WILL defend and exalt you.
“I promise that the soul that will venerate this image (of Divine Mercy) will not perish. I also promise victory over (its) enemies already here on earth, especially at the hour of death. I Myself will defend it as My own glory.” – Divine Mercy in My Soul # 48
“My mercy is greater than your sins and those of the entire world.” – Divine Mercy in My Soul # 1485
“You are compassion itself for the greatest sinners who sincerely repent. The greater the sinner, the greater his right to God’s mercy.” – Divine Mercy in My Soul # 423
