Come Holy Spirit – “I Know You”

“Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet” – Mark 5:22

This is the start of one of my favorite scenes in the Bible. The healing and raising of Jairus’ daughter and the healing of the bleeding woman.

Sitting here meditating on this event, I call to mind the scene depicting this in The Chosen. Jairus studied what his new friend Yosef wrote about Jesus and His sermon on the Mount. In this, he reads back to the Old Testament and discovers something. This bring us to the moment which Jairus comes before Jesus. Falling to his knees with tears in his eyes, Jairus says one of my favorite lines in the series. “I know You.”

Someday soon I will come before Jesus and I pray my reaction is the same. That when my eyes first fall upon Jesus, I fall to my knees knowing exactly Who stands before me. But, that is only half the dream. I pray with my whole heart in this moment, Jesus reaches out to me and says, “I know you!”

This dream begins now. Knowing Jesus starts here in this life. We come to know Him through the historical records in the Bible and through the eyes of the saints and the Church. We speak to God enough in prayer as a friend as much as our God that He knows our voice as we come to know His Voice. It means that we live a life of faith, and trust in His mercy and presence. It means that when people hear us speak or see our actions, they see Jesus, even if they don’t know Him.

It means having total trust in the mercy of God. Trust that it is His Divine Mercy that lifts us to His Kingdom. It means trusting that the Father has the power and desire to see us be saints. It means we trust in the power of the Holy Spirit to sanctify us – with no doubt or reservation.

Then, someday, we will come before God declaring in the depths of our soul as this Jairus and St. Thomas declare, “I know You, my Lord and my God.”
