Do you trust God to lead you when things aren’t going as you planned?
Do you expect God to be or do something then get upset or dejected when it doesn’t work as you planned?
Maybe a little like this? “But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. ” Luke 24:21
but we had hoped…
How often our answer to unanswered prayers or hopes is that of the two men heading to Emmaus, “but we had hoped”
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” – Jeremiah 29:11
This is why I journal and write my posts on http://www.theroadoffaith.net and why I wrote my book. This is why I can’t hold back telling of what God has done in my life.
This is all that I should remember the times of God’s promises and answers and that others may know, God loves us and wants only the best for us.
The Emmaus duo thought they wanted Him to be the warrior Messiah. They wanted a freedom fighter. They knew what they thought He should be, but Jesus knew better. PS – He is a freedom fighter just not what they expected.
I thought He should heal my daughter right then, but God knew better. His plan was for a greater good. I always say, Jesus could easily have healed my daughter in that moment – no doubt. If He had, I would have praised Him. But, I would have been stuck in that moment. By His plan, He broke me down and recreated me to learn what trust really means. He showed me that praise comes in the dark and the light. Because He didn’t act as I wanted, I am stronger than ever.
So with these Emmaus men and others, I raise my hands in praise that God knew better. I still fight to keep myself from putting my plans and expectations upon God, but, I trust Him more now than ever in my life. Even if He is silent, says no or isn’t what I expected – He is still God.
I read my Bible and pray, sit in silence at His knee, looking to discern in my heart all of Whom God is. Because, Who God is, is way beyond anything I could imagine.
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him” – 1 Corinthians 2:9
