Saints on the Road – St. Faustina

Spread the love

We will begin with one of my Patroness Saints – guess who? Yes! Of course, St. Faustina! How could I not kick off this new Road of Faith feature with any other than the Saint who has done so much in my life these past two decades.

Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska of the Blessed Sacrament in Glogowiec, Poland on August 25, 1905.

St. Faustina experienced many visions and encounters with Jesus – from her call to the convent to her writings on Divine Mercy. Probably one of the most famous visions was of the Merciful Jesus. In this encounter, Jesus came dressed in white, holding His right hand in blessing while pulling back the garment with His left to let rays of red and white light to wash forth. This vision came with the command to paint the famous Image of Divine Mercy.

The image and writings of St. Faustina has inspired millions to trust in God’s Divine Mercy. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed almost as devotedly as the Holy Rosary. Prayed together, they bring the whole of the Mass into prayer – the Rosary brings the Liturgy of the Word and the Chaplet unites with the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Her writings on Jesus’ command are responsible for Divine Mercy Sunday. As well as the salvation of many many souls. The message of mercy that Sister Faustina received is now being spread throughout the world; her diary, Divine Mercy in my Soul, has become the handbook for devotion to the Divine Mercy. If you don’t have this diary or haven’t read it yet, let me highly recommend you get a copy today. Go to the catalog on my homepage to get a copy from the Marian’s.

She went home to Heaven on October 5, 1938. St. Faustina Kowalska was beatified on April 18, 1993 and canonized on April 30, 2000, both by Pope St. John Paul II. Her feast day is celebrated on October 5.

She is the patron saint of Mercy. And, I pray she will soon be a Doctor of Mercy.
