“Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus” – Luke 24:13
The Road to Emmaus starts telling of two disciples ‘running away’ from Jerusalem. They tell of all the incredible things that had occurred that Easter morning. Huge things you’d think would excite them to find more – “some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning” (v 22), the women did not find his body there (v 22), the women told them that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive (v 23), how Peter and John went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said (v24).
Yet they were running away.
But, Jesus had other plans.
Little did these two men realize the were ‘running to’ not away from this incredible moment.
Jesus kicked off His ‘resurrection morning’ with a quick visit and hug for His faithful mother, told the women He is alive, then took hours to walk slowing to Emmaus with these two runners.
Jesus walked with them, bringing them back along the journey. Their Road of Faith was unknowingly leading them to a deeper, hearts of fire, depth of devotion and love of Jesus.
How many years I seemed to be running away from my faith. But, in all those years of going away, Jesus was with me, waking and guiding my heart toward Him. Now, my heart is on fire. I want to run to wherever anyone I know or meet and let them know what I know – “I know that my Redeemer lives!!” – Job 19:25
“Were not our hearts burning within us”. – Luke 24:32
Trust God, trust in Jesus – know that you can never run away. Have faith and know that even as you run, you are always running toward Jesus. Because Jesus knows the ways of your Road of Faith – all paths comes back to Jesus.
