Surrendering to God is a beautiful and profound journey of trust, allowing His divine will to guide our lives.
It’s not about weakness, but about finding true freedom and peace in His loving plan. But how do we set our foot upon this Road of Faith?
Cultivate a Habit of Prayer: Prayer is the primary way we communicate with God and remind ourselves of His presence. Engaging in daily prayer, even if just for a short time, helps us consciously acknowledge His reality and strengthen our faith. The Morning Offering, for instance, is a powerful practice to dedicate your entire day—your prayers, works, joys, and sufferings—to God’s will. Remember, consistency in prayer is often more important than perfection; like any habit, it takes time and perseverance, and it’s okay to start with “baby steps” and pick yourself up after struggles.
Seek and Accept God’s Will: True surrender means striving to do God’s will in all circumstances. This is central to our salvation and our union with Him. As Jesus taught, “Not every one that saith to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 7:21). This involves letting go of our own self-will and accepting what God reveals through the daily circumstances of our lives, rather than relying solely on self-imposed practices.
Foster Trust and Faith: God gives us the gift of faith, and we are called to cherish and guard it. Through prayer, we strengthen our belief in Him, reminding ourselves that He is real and present. Trust that God directs our actions and sustains us with His grace, which brings a sense of peace and courage. The fullest freedom comes from abandoning our own will to do only God’s will, knowing that He is with us.
Regular Self-Reflection: An examination of conscience can be a helpful tool. It allows us to review our day, seeing it from God’s perspective, and identifying areas where we can better align with His will. This can involve reflecting on our actions, thoughts, and words, and asking God for the light to see ourselves as He sees us.
This journey of surrender is ongoing, a continuous opportunity to grow in spiritual freedom and become instruments of God’s designs.
