‘Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit’ Luke 23:46
Abandonment: Giving control to another
If you want Jesus in the middle of your life, you have to obey Him, unconditionally, You have to give up control of your life and accept His Divine Will.
1st stage of surrender: simply to accept and consent to God’s Will as it is revealed to us in circumstances of our lives.
2nd stage of surrender: being obedient to God’s Will, being His obedient servant. Like Mary, keeping our eyes continually on God. Your gaze asking one simple question, “what would You have me do?” The secret of freedom from care is not that we surrender our life to God only at certain times. The secret is that we never leave God. The second stage is actually doing God’s Will.
3rd stage of surrender: God does His Will through me. He uses me, His does it through me. No, I offer to Got not only my will but all my potential, all the powers of my soul, so that HE Himself may carry out His Divine Will through me.
The Father asks us to give our imperfect will to Him, in exchange, He gives back to us His Perfect Divine Will.
“Father,
I abandon myself into your hands; do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you:
I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures.
I wish no more than this, O Lord.
Into your hands I commend my soul;
I offer it to you
with all the love of my heart,
for I love you, Lord,
and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands,
without reserve,
and with boundless confidence,
for you are my Father.”
