Do you want to go to Heaven? Do you want your life to mean something to God? Do you want your life to be used by the Lord to influence others in God’s Kingdom?
If the answer to any of these is ‘yes’, you need to know God. You must dive into the Bible, the Sacraments must become a light to your heart, Mass must be the center of your week.
“How can young people keep their way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; do not let me stray from your commandments. I treasure your word in my heart, so that I may not sin against you. Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes. With my lips I declare all the ordinances of your mouth. I delight in the way of your decrees as much as in all riches. I will meditate on your precepts, and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.” Psalm 119:9-16
The Bible is a road map to how to live a life for God while here on earth but more importantly, the Bible is your GPS to get you to Heaven.
Psalm 119:9-16 highlights this need and fruit to me.
The Bible is you Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth.
The word of God is a pearl of great value. You must ‘sell’ everything to find the true value of this treasure. Sell everything? What I mean is to give your time, time you’d rather spend at some other endeavor, to read and learn the word of God.
Delve into the Bible, read a Gospel, a chapter of section at a time. I love Matthew and Luke – they are storytellers. John is awesome, showing Who God is and that Jesus is Him. Move to the next. Acts of the Apostles gives us the Church in its infancy, pure and devoted to God. Paul’s letters are lessons in Christianity – Romans is easy with graduate level information. Maybe try a Psalm a day. The Psalms are low-hanging and easy fruit on the tree.
To give a purpose, I decided to read the Gospels and note each time Jesus speaks of the Father. The Lord came to bring knowledge of the Father to His people.
Spend time in the word – start now, today…10-15 minutes.
