Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown?
Will you let my name be known?
Will you let my life be grown in you
And you in me?
I’ve heard the hymn “The Summons” sung at Mass over the years, and it usually leaves me with questions like “Where do you want me to follow you, Lord?” or “What mission do you have for me now?” The last time it was sung at Mass, however, it struck me differently.
I began to think about how God calls us to have a missionary attitude but instead of sending us overseas, sometimes He calls us to the mission field of our own homes.
God calls us to follow Him. He calls us to follow and be His voice to our family, in our home, at work and to our friends and peers. He calls us simply.
Will you follow Me if I call? ‘Will I call now. Follow Me.’
