“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!’” – Isaiah 6:8
Look in the mirror, meditate in your heart – just you and God, ask yourself “when God needs someone, do I raise my hand?”
So many times I’ve gone out to do what the Lord asks. I’ve never felt ready, skilled or capable of the things asked. But, ultimately, I trusted God knew what He was doing and would give me the words and wisdom to do what He asked. Many times I have wondered “why me?” Or looked back and asked “how did I do that?” Or “how did I get here?”
I’ve stepped out in faith, starting a Bible study program at our old parish, despite barely having started even reading the Bible and certainly never having led a study before. I’ve set up and led adoration days of prayer with the combined men of Pittsburgh’s CMFs only to find myself somehow leading the Bishop in the Holy Rosary. I’ve stepped out and led men’s retreats even transplanting the Emmaus retreat into our parish for both men and women. I found myself, an introvert standing before dozens and even thousands as I spoke of my experiences encountering God. I wrote a book and shared very personal private revelations with the world – and have often spoke to strangers of this event. I have shared daily for six year my personal “journal” reflections on my blogs at TheRoadofFaith.net.
None of these things I sought to do, but I felt God ask, “who will do this?” and I answered “me, Lord.”
When God asks of you to go to your daughter or wife to be His voice or to the wide world to preach His Gospel, how do you respond? When God says “I need someone to (insert task)”, do you respond boldly, “here I am, Lord, send me” (even if you have no idea how you’ll accomplish the task?
Be bold, tell God before He even asks, “here I am, Lord. Whatever You need or ask, send me.”
