This song always has such meaning to me. Different verses at different times of my life have rung loudly.
You shall cross the barren desert
But you shall not die of thirst
You shall wander far in safety
Though you do not know the way
You shall speak your words in foreign lands
And all will understand
You shall see the face of God and live
Through dark night and long wandering seemingly lost in the wilds, I’ve need fed and given water from the Living Well.
If you pass through raging waters in the sea
You shall not drown
If you walk amid the burning flames
You shall not be harmed
If you stand before the power of hell
And death is at your side
Know that I am with you through it all
Standing before death itself in fear of my daughter’s life and despair of my father’s death, I found God stood closer and more strongly at my side.
Blessed are your poor
For the kingdom shall be theirs
Blessed are you that weep and mourn
For one day you shall laugh
And if wicked men (tongues) insult and hate you
All because of Me
Blessed, blessed are you!
To hear these words of Jesus, “you suffered for My Name, you were scorned for knowing and speaking of Me – blessed are you.”
And all comes down to the refrain – trust that God walks before you always.
