This scene always brings tears to my eyes.
I’ve meditated upon this scene for years prior to The Chosen filming it.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9
Each time I’ve fallen into sin, I am so ashamed to come back before God. How can I return when I’ve done ‘that’? I am so ashamed. God has loved me, He redeemed me. I threw it away – again. So broken hearted.
But, two things occur with any fall when the soul turns even timidly back to God. Even in shame of the scars of new/renewed sin, the soul dares approach God.
Jesus is waiting.
The Blessed Mother, as a true loving mom, wipes our tears. She cleans us up, just a bit. Then, never leaving our side or loosening her hand holding ours, she leads us to her Son.
“Forgive me, Father, I’ve sinned. I’m so ashamed.” Mary’s hand rests softly and reassuringly upon our shoulder.
“I am so ashamed. I threw all Your Grace away. Again!”
Jesus’ loving voice calls into our darkness and despair. “My child, raise your eyes.”
“No, I can’t”
Jesus lovingly but firmly replies, “My child, look up.”
The soul raises his eyes, falling upon the eyes of his Loving God. No judgement, no condemnation, only love.
The soul breaks down and cries. Broken of his sinful heart, he falls forward into the arms of his Redeemer, his Savior
Know that when you sin, fighting forward in desire of sanctity, Jesus is waiting to draw you to His Sacred Heart. No matter how many times you think you threw away grace, He is waiting and calling you to lift your eyes.
He is drawing you to the heart of the Father.
Jesus’ Sacred heart makes it possible.
The Holy Spirits renews the call to your soul to invite you to turn around. Again or again.
