“When you know, you know”
“God is love” – 1 John 4:8
Come Holy Spirit, give us a heart of knowledge of this one very simply fact – God is love.
This is the simplest truth in the Bible and throughout all creation and history – God is love. Yet, it may be one of the most muddled and lost upon souls. I think maybe that is because this truth is not something the devil wants anyone to hear or understand. So, he muddies this meaning by simply making love generic. “WOW I love pizza!”, “I love the color of that sports car!” Or, a more insidious attack of the enemy, “look at what I’ve done, God couldn’t love me.”
There are so many lies about love and so many things which dilute its truth.
The one simple fact all souls should know and ponder upon is that God doesn’t just love you but that He is love. The Father loved you perfectly at first thought of you prior even to creating form over the formless. He loved you perfectly when you were conceived and born. He loved you perfectly at your baptism. He love you perfectly when you first sinned – God loved you just as perfectly when you did that sin the first and thousandth time.
God doesn’t love you more today because you went to the Sacrament of Reconciliation or to Mass. The Father doesn’t love you more because you prayed a Rosary or Divine Mercy Chaplet or even because you just received His Son in the Holy Eucharist.
God just perfectly loves you. Period. Mic drop and all that.
“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son..” John 3:16
God I’m not capable of loving you less just because you sinned. And, God can’t love you more because you’re holy. God simply loves you because He IS Love.
Well, how do I know that God really does love me? “When you know, you know”
Just sit today and meditate upon that truth.
