“Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name. When they call to me, I will answer them” – Psalm 91:14-15
I want to know You!
When you look at Scripture, read of the lives of the saints, participate in the Sacraments and pray, can you look to Jesus and say, “I know You!”?
I’ve reflected upon this many times in the past couple of years, but it still bears further thought.
To know Jesus is the ultimate goal of all souls – or, it should be. But, how does one come to know Jesus?
“While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him.” – Luke 24:15-16
“The men who were traveling with him stood speechless because they heard the voice but saw no one. Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing” – Acts 9:7-8
Jesus can be right before us yet our eyes, and hearts be closed from seeing Him.
Jesus is in front of us, at our side in all the moments of our life. The Spirit is there, ready to guide, empower and even carry us when necessary. But, so often, the soul is blinded by the scales of expectations and worldly cares and fears. We let our preconceptions blind us.
We are blessed as Catholics to live in a time in which we know the name of God. We know Who He is and see all He has done throughout all history. We can look around us and see creation pointing to Him, showing His glory in its very existence.
We need to open the eyes of our heart to trust Jesus and trust God and lean upon His Spirit to lead us. I need to draw nearer to Jesus and get to know Him truly and personally that I may not fall, and that when I do fall, I get back up in full trust in Knowledge of Who Jesus is.
Come Holy Spirit – help me to know Jesus, to know You!
