“ Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.” – Matthew 14:23-24
When the strong winds begin to kick up in your life, do you react or respond?
When we simply react, we may follow the example of family tradition. Not saying this is you, but for some, language flies, things get thrown, or despair sets in. Simply reacting is like putting the pedal to the metal without hands on the wheel. Something’s going to happen, but you are out of control.
“Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said.” – Matthew 14:25-29
Or, responding in faith, your experience with Jesus draws your heart and mind immediately toward him. The one who calms the storms is the first and right choice even in the midst of the storm.
When ‘it’ hits the fans, which way do you turn? Do you react in fear, and stress and emotion? Or, do you stop, bow your head (or raise it) and look to God – “Lord, I know You got this, give me the faith to calm the storm raging inside me, even if the one in the world continues.”
The key to life is to have faith in Christ. There is NOTHING that transpires of which He doesn’t haven control and knowledge. There is NOTHING that comes to your life which He can’t use for your good and growth – or, maybe the growth of another who sees you bow your head and come up calm.
How do you react? Practice and work on your reaction when the next storm comes upon the horizon. Or when that storm explodes about you. when he storm bears down upon you, turn to your faith and trust Jesus.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
