“Be still and know that I AM God” Psalm 46:10

I sit here this morning meditating upon Who is God. Who is God in my life?

“I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.” – Nicene Creed

As Catholics we pray the Nicene or Apostle’s Creed often. Within the celebration of every Mass, to start the Holy Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and many other prayers. But, how often do you stop and think on these words?

We declare that we believe God is Almighty, Creator of all things, Heaven and earth.

Most likely, these words are sped past, not even given much thought. As we say these words, we know beyond a doubt who is God in my life. Me! Well, dah? Who knows better what I want and need and who can achieve those goals without assistance from anyone else? Me.

God answers sternly, “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding, Who set its measurements? Since you know.” Job 38:4-5

To follow God as a Christian, we absolutely must get the order of things correct. Follow God…that doesn’t mean we ever lead God, tell God what to do or demand our rightful place. Follow means surrender. Surrender means that we realize that “God is God and I am not.”

When we stop trying to run and rule our life, surrendering that life and all the world around us to God, we start to order things aright. It is in this total trusting surrender that we finally are still and trust that He is God. Not just of the world, but of my world. That He is the God of my life, and reigns sovereign over us.

God does know better, He actually knows all. And, He will use His Omniscience to guide you home. His one goal is your salvation, your sanctification.

So, Who is God of you?
