It isn’t wrong to ask questions, what is wrong is not accepting the answer.
“For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves.” Romans 8:19-23
Nothing in this world is right, everything is at least a little off kilter. Creation groans to be set aright again. Man yearns deep within to be made whole again. Wholeness that only comes from fullness in God. Fullness the likes of which few in this life have attained.
“In his pain and despair, Job asked a lot of legitimate questions: “Why let people go on living in misery? Why give light to those in grief” Job 3:20
This “why” question is human nature, and we all ask it. We have this misconception that if we understand the reason behind our pain, then it will make the pain easier.
You don’t need an explanation; you need strength. You don’t need an explanation; you need a faith. You don’t need an explanation; you need to trust.
Looking for an answer to ‘why?’
Don’t look to me, I don’t know. I’m never going to know, because I’m not God. And neither are you! Some things we’re just never going to understand until we get to the other side of death. Then it’s all going to become very, very clear. Only God knows. And if you don’t get his answer right off the bat, you might as well stop asking “Why?” because you’re simply prolonging the pain.
Proverbs 25:2a says, “It is God’s privilege to conceal things.” God is a God of revelation. He reveals himself through nature, circumstances, and Scripture. The only reason you know anything about God is because he has chosen to reveal himself.
But the Bible says God doesn’t just reveal; God also conceals. And sometimes God intentionally hides his face from us. Why? So we’ll learn to trust him and to live by faith rather than by our feelings.
God doesn’t owe you an explanation for anything. God doesn’t have to check in with you first before he does something. God doesn’t have to get your permission before he allows things to happen in life. God is God, and we’re not always going to understand why some things happen.
One day it will all be made clear, if on that day we even care any longer. Until that day, place your trust in God. Trust that God IS God and IS on His throne in Heaven. God IS supreme, all knowing and all powerful. We aren’t.
So when we come to the knowledge and faith that God IS God, we can lay down our stresses, fears and worries. “Why God?” Changes from fear to anticipation. And, in this moment, the seed of trust, plants by God, breaks through the soul’s fertile ground.
“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son” Romans 8:28-29
