Isaiah 6 describes how the prophet Isaiah, through a vision from the Lord, begins his ministry for God. In the vision, the Lord asks, ““Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” Isaiah 6:8a. Isaiah’s response was to volunteer for service: “Here am I; send me” Isaiah 6:8b
After a 52-year reign of relative peace, King Uzziah of Judah died of leprosy in 739 BC (2 Chronicles 26:16–23), the same year Isaiah began his prophetic ministry. In a vision, Isaiah saw the Lord, “high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple” (Isaiah 6:1). The Lord had a message to deliver to the nation of Judah, and He expresses His desire for a messenger in verse 8. ““Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?””
Isaiah’s exclamation “Here am I; send me” marked the very beginning of his ministry; the priest was now a prophet, and the Lord’s message for Judah eventually became the book of Isaiah.
The Lord does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called. None of us are worthy to serve as the voice of the Lord. But, that is exactly what He is asking, and more. He is looking for your response to be His voice, His hands and feet and His eyes and ears in the world. Now, in these days more than ever in our lives.
The Lord is calling. “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” Luke 10:2. Souls are at stake!
Today the Lord will call out to you in some form, ““Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”” Every one of us needs to be open to hearing His voice when He does call. I pray that when that call comes, all His people will answer “here I am, Lord, send me.”
How will you answer?
