Who is your King?
“Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king except Caesar.”” John 19:15
What rules your life? Is it the job, the home, sports or a list of other worldly princes? These worldly rulers take charge of your life, then make you their slave. It is done so easily and subtly most don’t even recognize, even when they’ve lost all the joy they sought after in these ‘joys’.
Souls line up their idols, one by one, placing them on shelves to enjoy and show off. Never realizing these same joys are like a stone around the neck. I’m not saying these are sinful, but many get sucked in so much, they lose sight of the true King. Even when seeking Him, they give their time to those ‘princes’, pushing Jesus to the back of the shelf.
So, Pilate asks each of us this simple question. ‘Shall I crucify your King?’ AKA – ‘is this your King?’
How do we respond? ‘We have no king but Caesar/the worldly princes of our lives’? Or, do we stand up and declare Jesus is my King?
We realized how much of a hold on time these princes had on our lives when we cut them out. We sold the big house, cut cable and all the movies and sports and focused fully on making Jesus King of our lives.
Having trouble making this level of break, to stand out from the crowd and declare ‘Jesus is my King”? Don’t worry, make the declaration to God, and start making the efforts to put Jesus on the single throne in your world. It might take some detox time, breaking away completely like a retreat moment. Just start. Recognize those worldly princes that have reign over you and rebel against them. Turn to Jesus – step by step.
Make Jesus your King!
Make St. Thomas’ declaration in your life and in and from your heart, “Jesus, my Lord and my God.”
