I ponder Christ’s Mercy this dark morning. I am reading “Consoling The Heart of Jesus”, Father Gaitley asks us to think of God’s Mercy and forgiveness.
I know it hurts Jesus, it breaks God’s heart, when I sin. In those times, He would be justified to turn His back on me. But, in the deep love God has for me, He tells me that no matter how often, numerous or bad my sin, His Divine Mercy is abundantly mine. Not just that, but He tells me that His Divine Mercy is actually glorified through my sin when I repent and turn back to ask forgiveness.
When in sin, I run from God’s love and the Father feels even greater pain and suffering. Each little sin is a lash to Jesus’ back during the passion, each sin is a hit against the nails in His Holy Hands on the cross. As Jesus told St. Faustina, “the flames of mercy are burning me. I desire to pour them out on human souls. Oh what pain they cause me when they do not want to accept them.”
Fearful of judgment – afraid He will tell me that this time was one too many, I stand outside the confessional doors. My palms sweat and heart races fearfully. But, no matter what, nor how many times I sin, Jesus is standing on the other side of that door of mercy calling out, “When you give Me your sins, you give me the joy of being your Savior.”
And, again, unworthy to be called His son, I run to the my Father’s outstretched arms to beg forgiveness. And, yet again, He welcomes me home and consoles me. Tears of joy in His Holy Eyes as He washes away all my sin and transgressions.
I cry joyfully at His Divine Mercy.
We all have a tendency to run out on the road and run away to hide in Emmaus. But, Jesus will never leave us to wander in the wilderness alone. He will always make His way to meet us on our Road of Faith to open our hearts and eyes to His great Divine Mercy.
