“Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed and ill. They asked Jesus to help her. Jesus went to her, took her hand and helped her up” Mark.1:31
What would Jesus do to grab your attention? What would He do to free your heart and life to speak His words?
Jesus’ act of healing Simon’s mother-in-law was personal, simple and yet powerful. Simon would have been stressed about leaving his wife alone during his travels. How much more would the stress increase with his mother-in-law home sick as well. His mind would have been torn. As much as he desired, how could he focus on his mission? How could Simon listen and learn when Jesus is teaching if his mind is wandering back to home?
Jesus will do many things in our life to capture our attention. He kept at me until I finally turned to listen, several decades of effort. But, once He has our attention, we must stay focused. For Simon, Jesus took away a distraction in healing his mother-in-law. Very obvious.
So, what has Jesus done in your life to (1) get your attention and (2) remove distractions to draw your focus singularly to Him?
Make your list, journaled or mental notes, then, at the end note the most significant way.
The cross.
Look up on Calvary. See the cross silhouetted against the sky. The God of the universe hanging with His eyes beckoning to draw your attention. Kneel at His feet hung over your head. Now, never let your attention waiver. Even when you go back down the hill to tell the world what you saw, keep your focus upon that cross. Never let the loving gaze of Jesus from the cross leave your mind or heart.
