When I ponder on what Jesus has asked of me, I don’t know what to think. I remember my past, and what I’ve done, my sins, I don’t know what to think.
Jesus looks at me with those crystal clear eyes and says, “then don’t, just fall into my arms.”
Jesus has asked me to do some incredible things throughout the past two decades. The biggest, simplest and most difficult is to just believe. Stop trying to figure it all out beforehand. Thomas, and even Judas had this same trait. Peter would dive right in, then take time to let it sink in. Judas allowed himself to be so caught up in the world, not taking the leap of faith, that he denied and turned upon Jesus. So unwilling to believe, that he died lost in his betrayal. Thomas demanded signs to believe but when he saw, he believed. “My Lord and my God!” John 20:28
We all come to a point on the Road of Faith in which we are faced with a crossroads. On one path, we can see the long road stretching out before us. While, on the other lies a cliff. Either fork will find Jesus waiting. On the first, Jesus waits to walk with us, to teach us and further set our hearts on fire. And, though the cliff looks the most hazardous, over that edge stands Jesus with arms wide waiting to catch us as we leap.
The opportunity to make that leap of faith will come again and again. Trust Jesus to catch you when you’re ready. But, never condemn yourself if you take the other road for now. Jesus is waiting to walk with you.
That night in the ICU beside my daughter, I didn’t know what to think or do. I felt that I had even turned around on the road early I the evening, running from God’s call. But, Jesus was right there with me despite my ‘failings.’ I know now that because of my fall earlier that evening, Jesus was able to teach me more clearly than ever in my life before. Within a year, I was able to close my eyes, throw wide my arms and leap.
Even now though, I still look back to the road upon which I walked and worry or envy others who “did it better.” In these moments, I’m learning to lean my head back upon Jesus and listen to His quiet words of comfort.
Take this advise.
When the cliff looks too scary from which to leap. Repeat the prayer, “Jesus, I trust in You.”
When the road ahead looks to long or steep, Repeat the prayer, “Jesus, I trust in You.”
When the road behind looks like a lot of wrong ways and detours, Repeat the prayer, “Jesus, I trust in You.”
Trust that God the Father knows exactly where you are, in fact, He knew where you would be and is there waiting for you. Just like the two disciples found when they tried to hide and run to Emmaus.
Repeat the prayer, “Jesus, I trust in You” and stop thinking – just leap.
