“Let those that are at peace with you be many, but let your advisers be one in a thousand.” Sirach 6:6
Found these lyrics to a beautiful song, I believe they are from an old Irish prayer, the words struck me as a beautiful prayer to offer to Jesus and those who walk beside you everyday. I would offer today to my best friend – my wife.
My eyes can’t see
My arms can’t reach
I need strength when I’m weak
I need your faith in me
Don’t walk in front of me
I was not born to follow
Don’t walk behind me
We were all born to lead
Don’t walk without me
I might need you tomorrow
Walk right beside me
Be the real friend I need
As much as our Protestant brothers and sisters say our faith is a individual relationship with Jesus and it is all about our personal relationship with the Lord, we are not intended to walk The Road of Faith alone. We are meant to walk together as the Church and with trusted companions who share a desire to know and love God.
So many battles I’ve engaged in the past twenty years of my faith journey, without Connie at my side I would have lost many of them. She is my best friend and greatest defense – No doubt, I am a better man because of her nearness.
I surround myself with men and women I count as greatest friends. Each have the same thing in common – a desire to get to Heaven. Each of us do it in a different manner. Some are great prayer warriors, some are action, others are lovers of His Word. Together they all give me shining examples of how to live in order to one day stand joyfully before the throne of God.
Who do you have in your life whom you can depend upon to help guide you towards God? Do you have a trusted companion with whom to walk the Road of Faith? Never go it alone!
All God’s blessings and grace to my Proverbs 31 wife and best friend. May God grant you many blessed years filled with faith, grace and love.
“A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter: he that has found one has found a treasure. There is nothing so precious as a faithful friend, and no scales can measure his excellence. A faithful friend is an elixir of life; and those who fear the Lord will find him.” Sirach 6:14-16
