“O my Jesus, despite the deep night that is all around me and the dark clouds which hide the horizon, I know that the sun never goes out. O Lord, though I cannot comprehend You and do not understand Your ways, I nonetheless trust in Your mercy. If it is Your will, Lord, that I live always in such darkness, may You be blessed. I ask You only one thing, Jesus: do not allow me to offend You in any way. O my Jesus.” Divine Mercy In My Soul # 73
“And a fierce gale of wind developed, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling with water. And yet Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm. And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”” Mark 4:37-40
“Headline News! Savior of the world, come to save mankind, drowns in freak boating accident!”
Yea, I don’t think so. The disciples knew He was the Messiah, the Son of Man, Son of God. Yet, they feared the storm even though Jesus was in the boat with them. What did they think would happen? That’s the problem, they stopped thinking and let fear whisper.
How often do we worry about the struggle right in front of us and forget Jesus is right there in the boat with us? Asleep or not, He is still God. If we know that in our hearts and with eyes of faith, why then do we struggle with such trust issues when the storm rolls in?
“Jesus, I trust in You” – “Jezu, ufam Tobie” –
“Jesus, eu confio em Vós” – Jesús, en Ti confío” – however you say it, the truth of these words must be as natural as breathing.
What should the soul, fully in trust of Jesus do in the storm? Water filling the boat and lightning crashing around, Jesus asleep in the back of the boat. Can you imagine the trust of the soul who simply waits out the storm, knowing Jesus won’t let the boat flounder? Or, maybe the soul simply awakes Jesus calmly to ask His assistance?
When the storm rages, trust Jesus is in your boat. He is aware of the situation and even if He appears to be asleep, He is in total control of the situation. Trust Him.
