Our Lord Jesus Christ Who gave up everything for our salvation, gave us the ability to “tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all power of the enemy” Luke 10:19. He handed on to us – along with the rest of His teachings – what He Himself did when He was tempted by Satan. See Matthew 4:1-11 and Luke 4:1-13.
“above all taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one.” Ephesians 6:16
In the time of struggle, when demons make war against us and hurl their arrows at us, let us answer them from Holy Scriptures, so that unclean thoughts may not persist within us, enslave our soul through sin of actual deeds and so defile our soul and plunge it into the death brought on by sin.
“…the soul that sins shall die.” Ezekiel 18:4
Whenever a thought is not firmly set in one’s mind, so that one can answer the evil one, sin is easily and swiftly handled. As Solomon says, “Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.” Proverbs 26:4-5. The person who acts in folly has become like the demon. But, the person who is patient and says, “it is written, cease from anger and forsake wrath” (Psalm 36:8) has answered the fool “in opposition to his folly” and has reproved the demon in its folly, showing he has learned that there is an antidote against it according to the Scriptures.
The words that are required for speaking against our enemies, that is demons, cannot be found quickly in the moment of conflict, because they are scattered throughout Scripture. You must arm yourself with these powerful verses loaded within your memory to be pulled out and ‘fired’ when the demon approaches. This is how we forcefully drive out the demons and sins, standing firm in the battle, as warriors and soldiers, knights of our victorious King, Jesus Christ.
