To See

“They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside.  When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”  Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”  Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.”  So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus.  Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “Master, I want to see.”  Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.“ Mark 10:45-52

This event has so many deep lessons. Persistence and Faith, Prayer and Sight.

Bartimaeus was persistent in his request. He didn’t allow those around him to silence his prayer or his faith. He knew with all his heart that Jesus was before him and that Jesus could heal his ailment.

And, maybe unknowingly, Bartimaeus gave a response of faith for all of us on the Road of Faith to echo – ‘Master, I want to see.’

‘Master, I want to see.’

This is a prayer I pray often. But, recently, I’ve been turning to and asking this of the Holy Spirit. In prayer, Jesus gave to me that it is the Holy Spirit Who gives us true sight. Without the light and flame of the Holy Spirit, the soul walks in a darkness. When we turn with this prayer to the Holy Spirit, He gives us light and sight to see things of God.

Turn your heart and eyes to Jesus today, asking the Holy Spirit to give you vision – ‘Master, I want to see.’
