“After Holy Mass, I went out to the garden to make my meditation, since there were not yet any patients in the garden at this time, and so I felt at ease. As I was meditating on the blessings of God, my heart was burning with a love so strong that it seemed my breast would burst. Suddenly Jesus stood before me and said, What are you doing here so early? I answered, “I am thinking of You, of Your mercy and Your goodness toward us. And You, Jesus, what are You doing here?” I have come out to meet you, to lavish new graces on you. I am looking for souls who would like to receive My grace.” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 1705
Do you seek times of solitude to spend just thinking of Jesus? Not praying or interceding or seeking anything, simply just thinking of God’s beauty? Maybe in the early pre-dawn hours, you just sit and think of the warmth of the rising sun Jesus brings to your heart. Or, laying your head back with eyes closed, you just bring an image of His face to mind, and look into His eyes.
It doesn’t matter what or how, go to your ‘garden’ and think of God’s mercy and goodness to you. Jesus will bring through His Spirit a heart of praising thanksgiving for the wondrous gifts blessing your life.
Today, the sun raises upon the horizon, warming my face as I sit here thinking of Jesus. So many things come to mind for which to be thankful to God. But, this morning, I push them all from my mind and simply look for Jesus in my heart. He comes quickly to sit with me in silence as together we watch the sun slowly rise. My heart is warmed by His presence. I sneak a peak from the corner of my eye to see Jesus looking at me with a smile. I ask Jesus, “why are you smiling, Lord?” He pauses a bit longer, finally responding, “just thinking of how much I love you, My son.” Tears wash my cheeks with joy.
Sitting simply in God’s presence, maybe at dawn or as the night darkens or in Eucharistic Adoration or whenever, is a great way to feel God’s love. Seek some time every day to sit and think of Jesus. No agenda or needs or worries – He knows all those and won’t forget them. But, in this time simply seek Jesus. And, enjoy how He lavishes His love and joy upon you.
