To Be a Saint

Spread the love

“For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification” 1 Thessalonians 4:2-3

This is the Divine Will of God. There is nothing else on His heart than for you to be a saint. Period. Mic drop. Whatever. Everything He does is oriented to that end. That’s always been the plan. A billion billion years before you were a thought to your parents, God said, “let us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.” Genesis 1:26. “then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being.” Genesis 2:7.

God knew what He was making when He gave you His breath for life. A Saint – capital ‘S’ Saint.

“Oh, wait! What about Eve and Adam? They ruined God’s lofty plan!” Ummm, no. Our greatest desires, wins and losses have no bearing on God’s end game. Do you honestly believe the omniscient God, that means He knows everything, would not have a greater plan in store?

Even when we fall and sin, even mortal, God knew beforehand and already set the plan in motion for your sanctity. First step of the plan is the cross. Second step comes from the cross, Divine Mercy.

From an Apostolic Exhortation of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, “The Lord asks everything of us, and in return he offers us true life, the happiness for which we were created. He wants us to be saints and not to settle for a bland and mediocre existence. The call to holiness is present in various ways from the very first pages of the Bible. We see it expressed in the Lord’s words to Abraham: “Walk before me, and be blameless” (Gen 17:1).” “All this is important. Yet with this Exhortation I would like to insist primarily on the call to holiness that the Lord addresses to each of us, the call that he also addresses, personally, to you: “Be holy, for I am holy” (Lev 11:44; cf. 1 Pet 1:16). The Second Vatican Council stated this clearly: “Strengthened by so many and such great means of salvation, all the faithful, whatever their condition or state, are called by the Lord – each in his or her own way – to that perfect holiness by which the Father himself is perfect”.”

Before God the Father gave His very breath, the essence of Who and What He is to bring about the moment of your conception, He desires one simple thing. That when you walk the Road of Faith through life on earth, the Road would end at His throne in your sanctified body.

Are you ready to be a saint? There is nothing holding you back but fear. Fear of what you might lose…let loose the whole world for this treasure. Fear of being unworthy – go back to the Father’s mind the moment He thought of you…what did He desire? Your sanctification. He made you worthy to be a saint by giving His breath to your soul. He makes you worthy as He gazes from the cross, pouring the Blood and Water from His Sacred Heart out to permeate you and wash away all that separates you from God.

“The only real sadness, the only real failure, the only great tragedy in life, is not to become a saint.” Leon Bloy – 19th century French writer

You expired Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fountain of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You.
