“My soul is in a sea of suffering. Sinners have taken everything away from me. But that is all right; I have given everything away for their sake that they might know that You are good and infinitely merciful. I shall be faithful to You, come rain or shine.” Divine Mercy in my soul # 893
In some way all people and events serve God’s Divine Will. All serve the same end – Glorify God. The irony is that often, the bad people and bad days serve God best.
“Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” Job 2:10
Read the lives of many saints, you’ll often see some difficult or possibly evil person providing some level of prosecution that seems necessary in the making of the saint. You will probably see some bad days or horrible event that is the backdrop or key in molding the saint.
It’s easy to love God when we feel like it and when life is going well and is quite easy. It is simpler when we are surrounded by happy friends and parties.
But when life is challenging, we can be tempted to turn in on ourselves and, in so doing, turn from our love for God. A true sign of holiness is that we love God no matter what we feel or experience throughout our day. We don’t love Him more in sunshine or draw closer to His hem when the thunder rolls, we love Him deeply, we love Him the same every moment of every day.
The stormy days of life and even demons and bad people can play a pivotal role in your sanctification.
I was blissfully walking along my rosy, sun-shiny path of sanctification before my daughter’s illness. I thought I was making great strides. In some ways, I was. But, overall I was marching in place. It wasn’t until the crucible of those tough days struck that I really began to move forward toward sanctity. It was in those rainy, thunder booming stormy days that God began His true work in me.
I was still being sanctified by God before the rainy days but it was in those days of darkness and struggle that I really started to make great leaps upward.
Do you trust and praise God when the ‘sky is falling’? Do you worship and love Him when it seems Hell itself is pitted against you?
Come rain or shine we must not waver in our love for our God and others. We must recognize God’s Will and actions in our life in all situations. Whether the forecast is rain, snow, lightning or beautiful sunny sky, worship God and trust Him to always be loving you.
