“Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’ Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”” Matthew 25:44-46
“I do not want to punish aching mankind, but I desire to heal it, pressing it to My Merciful Heart. I use punishment when they themselves force Me to do so; My hand is reluctant to take hold of the sword of justice. Before the Day of Justice I am sending the Day of Mercy.” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 1588
The day of Justice is on the near horizon, make no mistake, this day is coming. Soon!
But, now is the day of mercy, Divine Mercy.
We often run from darkness, hide from the sins we commit. We brush them under the rug only to bring out some that show when we go to the Sacrament of Confession. We come with the quick list of those that stand out on our minds but we don’t dare lift the rug to see all.
God gave to me this morning that too often I bring the surface sins only to Him. He sees all I’ve failed at and failed to do. So many requests He’s put upon my heart that I have left laying as I moved on. None of these I see as sin when I’m kneeling before Him in the confessional. ‘Forgive me, Father, I did this this and this and forgive things I forgot too.”
When I examine my conscience to ask God’s Mercy over the day, I skim through in the same manner. Catch the big things that stand out but look past everything else.
God wants more. God sees EVERY sin we commit as well as all we’ve failed to do. He hates even the smallest sin in our life. The littlest most insignificant sin stains our soul. That stain we try to hide because it’s not so visible, but when God shines His Light, His Holy Presence upon our soul, that stain is very apparent.
When you examine your conscience, before stepping through the confessional doors or at the end of the day, do you delve deeply upon your actions and inactions? Or do your skim through to get a list or not spend too much time? We don’t want to look too sinful by being in the confessional too long or spending too much time in examination.
But, God knows and sees all – even more than we see of ourselves.
We need to dig deeper, to get to the root and core of our sin. To do this, we must look for the tiniest of blemish. And, ask forgiveness as well as changing our ways.
When the time of judgement comes, none will be able to hide the things we did. We won’t be able to nor desire to justify our inactions or acts, the Truth will be shining upon us….all we be made bare.
“O human souls, where are you going to hide on the day of God’s anger? Take refuge now in the fount of God’s mercy. O what a great multitude of souls I see! They worshiped the Divine Mercy and will be singing the hymn of praise for all eternity.” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 848
When these eyes are looking into your soul, don’t be found lacking…
