Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” John 14:8
The disciples seem unwittingly to give us some of the greatest prayers outside of Jesus’ prayers in the ‘Our Father’ or His ‘Priestly Prayers’.
We hear Peter saying “‘Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.’” John 6:68-68
Thomas declaring, “My Lord and my God” John 20:28
And, here, Philip’s ‘prayer’, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
This seems such a perfect prayer this morning as I sit here watching the sun rise over Moab Utah.
Ultimately, this is the deepest desire of our hearts and souls, we achingly yearn to see the Father.
Apart from the cross, Jesus came for this purpose. So many times His words speak of and ‘expose’ to us the Father. No one knew the Father in this depth before Jesus. But, all hearts have always yearned simply to see the Father and to know Him.
Meditate today on the love of God, the Father, His desire for you to know Him is so great that He gave all creation’s beauty for that purpose. This desire is so great in the Father’s heart that He sent His Son to announce the news of the Father’s love to us and to open our eyes to the Father’s presence.
“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” — St. Augustine
