To Show the Father

“Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known’ John 1:17-18

I sit here this morning looking in the heart of the image of Divine Mercy. It is within the pierced Sacred Heart of Jesus that this verse comes to mind. Many Christians believe Jesus came to earth solely to die on the cross and rise from the dead to set us free from sin, opening Heaven. While this is true, I believe Jesus’ mission was much bigger.

“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people” Deuteronomy 18:15

Moses spoke of this “prophet” to Israel. What made Moses stand out? Truly stand out? “The Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” Exodus 33:11. God spoke to Moses ‘face to face as one speaks to a friend, yes Moses still was unable to see God face to face. Exodus 33:17-23 God tells that no one can see His Face and survive. So, God hides Moses’ eyes and allows him to see His veiled glory from the back.

Onto earth’s stage comes Jesus, Who has seen God truly face to face. In fact, Jesus brings God’s true face to earth, though still veiled for man behind human flesh. “Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; He has seen the Father” John 6:46.

So, Jesus shows us the face of the Father and teaches us from and of the Father – “It is written in the prophets, “And they shall all be taught by God. Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me.” John 6:45.

This is what comes to me as my eyes lift to the eyes of Jesus in the image. When I gaze into His eyes of Divine Mercy, I am seeing God the Father face to face. In fact, that is one of the lessons God gave me when writing “I Knew His Voice.” After Jesus visited my daughter the second time, she found an image she said was what Jesus looked like to her. “Except for the eyes, His eyes are so much more real and deep in real life.” When writing one night, I wondered how so many dropped all to follow Jesus. Many with only the call from Jesus, nothing more. Kristina’s words came to mind and I knew. For in the eyes of Jesus is the Divine person, the eyes of God the Father.

Read the Gospels and you’ll see many times this Jesus spoke of the Father. He taught how to pray to the Father, even His last words were to the Father. Everything the Lord did and said ultimately pointed to the Father. Jesus teaches mankind, really for the first time, that God is our Father. The only One Who could reveal the truth of this is God Himself in Jesus.

“Grace and truth came through Jesus” in this revelation. The truth of Who God is and who we are to God brings the greatest grace. The fact that God is our Father shows how He could give so much to be united again and fully with God.
