“Have this mind among yourselves, which was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:5-11
We are called to be servants of the Kingdom. More so, we are called to be servant leaders. Jesus is the greatest example of total humble service for us. Jesus left the Throne of Glory surrounded by host of angels, Cherubim and Seraphim singing in constant echo and harmony “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty.”
“He did this for me, I did what for Him?” St. Mother Theresa of Calcutta
God doesn’t make leaders, He makes servants who are called to lead. Are you called to serve and lead? If you are a disciple of Jesus Christ, yes.
We don’t ask to be in front in a position of leadership but we have to accept that position with humility when we are called by the Lord. We are not to act like the Pharisee and select a seat of honor or walk through the crowd demanding bowing and humility of others toward us. We are called to lead through our actions as Christ did.
We are called to be Simon the Cyrene and carry the cross of others. We are called not to seek honor but to give it all humbly to God when in a position of honor and leadership.
God doesn’t call leaders, He calls us to service and then makes us leaders. In this servant leadership, we become a living Bible and testimony of what Jesus did in our life.
“When he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.” John 13:12-16
Servants called to lead
Called to be Simon of Cyrene
Wash other’s feet
I love all of the above which are resonating with me today as I serve him
