The Road of Faith – Niepokalanów

Spread the love

Our next visit “on the Road of Faith “ is to Niepokalanów – the City of the Immaculate. Pronounced Nee-ya-plak-on-ov

Niepokalanow is a religious community located 42 km to the west from Warsaw, Poland. It was founded in 1927 by Maximilian Kolbe, who was later canonized as a saint-martyr.

This ‘city’ is dedicated to the Blessed Mother, the Immaculata. If you’ve read or know of St. Maximillian Kolbe, you know from a young age he was fully centered upon his devotion and consecration to Jesus through the Blessed Mother.

Visiting this beautiful site allows one to see the chapel in which St. Maximillian Kolbe gave lectures and celebrated Mass with the friars of Niepokalanow.

You tour the office in which the saint worked and was seated in when the Nazis came to arrest him.

For me, the most breathtaking part of Niepokalanow is the adoration chapel. I have never seen anything so beautiful as this chapel. Standing most prominently at the front of this chapel is a full-size icon of the Blessed Mother standing within a field of lilies. The icon is etched upon layers of glass to give her a full depth of view. The colors pop and draw you into the full image that is the front of this chapel. Then, ones eyes fall upon Mary’s heart. Settled at the center of who Mary is is Jesus. And centered in the middle of this icon of Mary is Jesus in the Eucharist.
