The Only Constant

Spread the love

So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

The one aspect of life that is constant and guaranteed in everyone’s life is the one things we most fear – CHANGE.

God doesn’t promise the easy road. He does promise to be here with us each step along the road. Look at the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. See Luke 24:17-21. They knew Jesus. But, after the event me of the three preceding days, they were downcast. All their hopes shattered. Not long ago, they knew He was the Messiah but now that knowledge is downgraded in the minds to a hope.

“But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel.” Luke 24:21

The change was dramatic in their lives. They knew Jesus and now He was dead. He told them what would come and the women saw it was true. But, their hearts hooked on the change and lost sight of everything else.

See my book, “I Knew His Voice.” I describe the events that occurred to me along these same lines. Jesus and the Father both told me to trust them. That They had it all under control and it would be ok. But, that night in the ICU, I lost sight of all God had spoken to me and all the promises and hope.

My fall that night didn’t surprise God. He knew what would happen within my soul and was ready. This change within my soul from hopeful prayer to utter failure was critical. At the time, I knew I had fallen and felt despair. But, God was working and teaching. He brought St. Faustina that night to introduce me to trust in the Chaplet of a Divine Mercy and in the next weeks she showed me the textbook on trusting God in her diary, Divine Mercy in My Soul.

Drastic change was required within my soul to bring me to a deep, unshakable level of trust. That change wasn’t easy, it hurt. A lot! But it was absolutely necessary. I went from a soul begging God for miracles and hope, to a soul who simply trusts God regardless. Even in tears and pain.

“Amen, amen, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” John 12:24

Do you fear change? Be open to changes that help you see God more clearly and know Him more intimately. Jesus guarantees in the Bible and St. Faustina’s writings that He is ALWAYS with us. Even in change – when He is making us a new creation.
