The Human Eye is Drawn To Light

Spread the love

“But those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgement, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed.” John 3:18-20

The eye is drawn to light, no disputing that truth. Stand outside on a dark night, what do you look at? The stars in the sky? The moon? A porch light in the distance? Cover the sky with storm clouds, take away all street and house lights, in the darkness, your eyes will find the speck of light.

“What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.” John 1:3-9

Just as the eye is drawn to light, so our eyes of faith are drawn to Jesus. Jesus is the Light of the world, through Him shines the light of God into the shadows of our hearts. This is the prayer I raise each time o receive Him in the Eucharist. That through this Eucharist I consume into my body, Hid Light might shine into the hidden areas within my soul. Areas that I hide even from myself in the shame of sin’s darkness. Little corners and recesses in which I hide from God in my pride or shame.

Let THE light come into your heart. Let Him Who IS the Light enter your heart and overcome the darkness of whatever has been hidden in the darkest places of your past. Receive the Eucharist into your soul as the brightest sun, lighting the depths of your soul.

His light is so bright that if you allow, His Light will shine away all the shadows hidden within, making your soul, heart and very life a light for others to see Jesus.
