The Greatest Title

Spread the love

“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”” Romans 8:12

I often say, “the greatest title I’ve ever held is ‘daddy’.” The day I became a father, when I first saw and held my daughter is the greatest day of my life, and more so, again when my 2nd daughter was born and again even more, when my son was born. And, then again, when my step-daughter joined my life and called me dad.

I pray the dads on the Road of Faith get it. Little brightens my day as when I hear one of my kids say, ‘daddy’ to me.

It is no more special with my first born, second, son or step-daughter. Nothing can sever my love for them. They are my kids and I delight in them and the title they’ve given me.

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,” John 1:12

As I sit here today pondering God, my Father, I can ‘see’ what He feels and sees in me. Through my title as daddy, I see how He loves me. And, what I see is just a vague shadow of Father God.

When Jesus told us of our Father, He gave us the greatest gift. To be a son (or daughter) of God means we have a relationship with THE Father. We can come to Him with our struggles, pains, joys and He delights in us. We come to Him just to be with Him, and He delights in us.

As I think of this, God gives me a moment of His Presence. With tears of joy, I say, “Abba.” And, He smiles. A sense of deep love as I’ve never experienced washes over me.

I realize the joy my father had when I called him dad, and the joy I feel when I hear dad from one of my kids. And, I see the joy God the Father has when we call Him ‘Father’, ‘Dad’, ‘Abba’.

Sit today and think on the fact that you are a son/daughter of the Most High God. The Creator of ALL things wants such a relationship with you that He has adopted you and calls you son/daughter and wants you to call Him “daddy.” Think of what that means to you.

“For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and the dry land, which his hands have formed” Psalm 95:3-5

And, yet, He treasures when you call Him Father.
