The Bible on the Road – Judgment and Punishment

Spread the love

“Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulphur and fire from the Lord out of heaven; and he overthrew those cities, and all the Plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the Lord; 28 and he looked down towards Sodom and Gomorrah and towards all the land of the Plain, and saw the smoke of the land going up like the smoke of a furnace. So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the Plain” Genesis 19:24-29

Billy Graham’s wife Ruth once said, “If God doesn’t punish America, He’ll have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.

How right on she was. When I look at the state of our nation, men “marrying” men, people claiming men can get pregnant, a holocaust of babies being killed in their own mother’s womb (Proverbs 6:16-19), sexual immorality, violence, and outright lawlessness against God’s commands, what do we expect? Do we expect the Lord to sit idly by as men knowingly and willfully transgress His Laws? (The Ten Commandments – Exodus 20).

But, how can a God pass this judgment when He is love (1 John 4:8), and Mercy is His greatest attribute. “Proclaim that mercy is the greatest attribute of God,” Christ tells St. Faustina (Divine Mercy in My Soul # 300). Mercy is more than God’s greatest attribute. It’s His entire nature. “All the works of My hands are crowned with mercy,” Christ says (Diary # 300).

Our people worship the Marxist agenda crying out every day to kill God – “crucify Him, crucify Him!” (Luke 23:21). The only thing that saved those people from God’s righteous wrath was Jesus’ call for mercy, “ “Father, forgive them. For they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34).

Jesus warned St. Faustina of His coming judgment. But, He also gave hope, “BEFORE THE DAY OF JUSTICE, I AM SENDING THE DAY OF MERCY.” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 1588

If God is a merciful, loving God, how can He cast such ‘vile judgment’ upon any soul, let alone a whole city or nation?

Mercy shown in a parent’s love can at times result in punishment. When a child does wrong, a parent can choose to ignore the actions or do something to teach their child and get them to turn from their ‘evil’ ways. One time my dad spanked me, I deserved it. I was about eight years old, nearly five decades ago, and that moment still is strong in my memory. I never did that wrong again. And, now I look back and realize how much that punishment hurt my father. But, in his love, he had to administer what I deserved.

The Bible tells us that God is just. The fact that God is just means that He can and will judge between right and wrong and He will administer justice in accordance with His standards. God is just, and His justice is an indispensable part of His character in the same way that His love and mercy are indispensable. Without His justice, sin would run unchecked. Evil would win. There would be no reward for obedience. We could not respect a god who was not just.

St. Paul bears the case against our times in his letter to the Romans – and, gives though the God’s wrath. He makes a good case…

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of those who by their wickedness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse; for though they knew God, they did not honour him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their senseless minds were darkened” Romans 1:18-21

God is calling out in many ways to stop what is happening in the world. To call the “Ninevites” to repentance. But, in the end, each of us makes our own choice. It is when our choice becomes final in the hardening of our hearts against God that His judgment will be administered against us. His just judgment is to give us what we want.

“Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen” Romans 1:24-25

Pray for our nation and world. It is falling apart more and more each day. The vileness of those practically preaching anti-Christ doctrine grows more virulent with each win of theirs. We need to save one more soul for God. Now! And run from the city before the brimstone fire falls. (Genesis 19:15, 17, 22
