The Bible on the Road – At the Name

Spread the love

“O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.” Psalm 8:1

The Holy Name of Jesus reigns above all names. At His Name nations and all peoples will someday bow. The Name of God made flesh.

“‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” Exodus 3:13-14. “Jesus replied, “I am He.”… WhenJesus said to them, “I am he,” they stepped back and fell to the ground.” John 18:5,6

There is power, immense power in the Name above all names. The Name of God has power. I know I’ve repeated that but it bears repeating over and over. Just for this ‘Bible on the Road’ post, I found several references of the power of God in just His Name. We know God is Sovereignly powerful. Nothing and no one hold power comparable to Him. The absolute most powerful being ever created is like a flickering candle against the sun of God’s power.

This is important to remember. The Name of God in Jesus is enough in that ‘every knee should bend..every tongue confess’ of this power. And, ‘I AM’? Well, you can see the power in this Name in Gethsemane – John 18.

It is important that we keep this knowledge and these Names close to our heart and every on our lips. I have counseled men and women on how to pray. Men and women who have never prayed before and don’t know how to start. Many of us spill out these big, flowery prayers which make them feel inept and afraid. I’ve coached that praying is simple to start, simply say the Name of Jesus. There is no greater prayer for fighting the ship, stopping the storm or casting out demons than this single Name.

The Name given us by God the Father through Moses is a good reminder when all the world is weighing upon your shoulders, and you’re wondering where God is in this moment. “I AM” reminds us that God is. Simply is. He IS in this moment, no matter the moment. If times are joyous, God reminds “I AM.’ If times are tough, God reminds “I AM.’ If the diagnosis is terrible or the soul stands at the final door…”I AM.”

Keep the Name of Jesus on the tip of your tongue, ready to come out in prayer. And, the name of God always in your heart. ‘I AM’ is ready to give peace and overcome what you face.

“Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

“O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:9

  1. Phillipeans – one of my favorite scripture passages and one that I pray over each Good Friday!

    1. One I ‘pray’ every time at Mass or any where that I hear His Name. At the Name of Jesus every knee will bend, at His Name I bow now – why wait!
