Reading the Bible, we see the storyline of God’s victory.
“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
I recently had a discussion with a person who tried to point to stories of the Bible as proof that God is not infallible. He said from the fall of Adam and Eve, through Israel’s many defeats and David’s sins, the Bible shows losses and mistakes by God. The flood was more proof that God made huge mistakes. But, to him, the biggest proof of God’s weakness is the cross. He contested that Jesus’ claim of being the Son of God and subsequent death on the cross was absolute proof of weakness.
Maybe if you wanted to take each piece and story as an individual, disconnected story you could see losses. But, this isn’t how the Bible is read or to be understood.
The Bible needs to be taken in its entirety. Each individual story makes up the whole of God’s story, His-story. Each part, spanned over centuries, pulls together a great love story of God to mankind.
Did man fall and make mistakes? Did God have to punish aching mankind? Yes, of course. But, read in its entirety, we see how God was always moving mankind forward from their captivity in sin through the Red Sea and desert and even up Calvary’s hill with the end goal of drawing to the resurrection and ascension. Not only of Jesus Christ but of man’s own soul.
The Road of Faith upon which we journey is a continuation of the story of the Bible. Yea, we don’t have it listed in chapter and verse, but, that makes our part of this great sage no less important to God.
Everything written and unwritten throughout His Story is for the end goal of bolstering our hope and showing us the way to His victory. Nothing we experience today is outside of God’s control. All the great God incidents and Divine experiences we witness are nothing compared to the great glory we will see when we finally meet God face to face.
