“With God all things are possible” Matthew 19:26
Our God is an awesome God. How often do we actually meditate upon that truth though?
Today is election day. Today Americans will be out voting for the President and Congress. I don’t hide that I heavily support President Trump and conservative values. “Life” is my first metric of any candidate. The Democrat ticket as very pro-abortion and anti-faith, plus many other things I could name that are against my beliefs. I won’t go into all of that as this is not a political blog not is this reflection about politics. This is about God’s Sovereignty and power.
The purpose of my Road of Faith reflections, the blog and my book, “I knew His voice” is to give people hope and joy by showing the power of God, that He truly is active and present today and most dear to my heart, His Divine Mercy.
So, then why do I lead off with political statements? Many people I speak with are terrified of this day – on both sides of the aisle. Part of me does fear the outrage that will occur no matter the results. People of faith are afraid of the agenda against their beliefs and values that a Biden/Harris administration will bring. People fear the turmoil tomorrow could bring.
But, fear of this world and its ruler’s schemes and plots should never worry a true believer. As Catholics, we hold onto the “one, holy and apostolic” Church of which Jesus Himself said, “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” Matthew 16:18
So, as believers we need to always be asking two questions. Is God on His Throne? Do I trust in Him?
If we can answer both questions with a “yes”, then what should we be afraid of? God is a great and mighty God and “nothing is impossible with God.”
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2
We need to hold up our chin and claim our faith in full. God is undefeated and undefeatable. The enemy’s greatest victory, the crucifixion and murder of God’s Son was his greatest defeat. In the enemy’s “victory” at Calvary, Jesus forgave sin, destroyed death and tore apart the facade of Satan’s kingdom.
So, when things seem to be spinning out of control, we know that God will be (and is) showing His Mighty Power and Love. We should not question where God is or why He doesn’t appear to be present. Never wonder why God doesn’t come back and finish this fight right now. We are simply called to trust in faith that tonight, tomorrow and forever, God will reign. And, then, one day “every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10-11 These verse don’t say “every believer’s”, it says “every”. The haters, those attacking us and our faith, unbelievers and even Satan and his fallen pack of demons will bend their knee to the Sovereign Majesty of Jesus.
I prayed yesterday, “Father God, bless our nation and bring the election today to save the newborn and allow us to openly worship You”. He spoke to my heart, saying, “will you have faith and worship me if the Biden wins?” “Yes, Lord! Thy Will be done. I am Yours no matter what.”
A soul that trusts in God unconditionally is a soul that will shine brilliantly in the darkness. When everyone else is running around panicking, we know God is in total control.
So, no matter what today or tomorrow brings, do your duty – today that includes casting your vote standing behind God’s teachings. But, as it does every day, our primary duty is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37 And, shine as a beacon of hope in a dark world. Let the joy of the Lord pour through you.
Thank you Ed. I have great anxiety for today and tomorrow, but, have such hope and trust in God.
No fear – look at today’s Mass readings and take comfort, today is God’s day. Every day is, no matter what comes on earth or what man does. And He chose today to share His thoughts in the readings
