Stop the world, I want to spend some time with You!
The world spins so quickly now. Noise everywhere. Data bytes flying all around us like little insects. TV and sports stealing time. Work never seems to leave itself AT work anymore.
“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret” Matthew 6:6
We all need time to ‘stop the world’ and get off. We need to shut down all the noise that is constantly radiating around and through us. How else will we hear God when He speak in the ‘still, small voice’ (1 Kings 19:12)?
One of the great gifts of my journaling and of this blog (www.THEROADOFFAITH.net). In the silence I’ve been able to bring God into my day.
I absolutely love that when I sit quietly with my Bible in the early morning, God never hesitates to make Himself felt and known. Sunday morning with a coffee and the Bible are precious to me. God and I, alone in the waking hours of dawn – THIS is my “room.”
Do you have a place and/or time that is set aside for you and God alone? A place to sit and pray the Rosary or Chaplet or read the Bible? Or, maybe even better, a place that you sit in total silence listening for God’s voice? A place and time of total silence.
Yes, in my personal time with God, I find myself journaling and reading His Holy Word in Scripture, but the greatest treasure is when I just listen to God’s voice. Try it.
He may not speak in verbal words as He did to Moses at the burning bush, He may not speak as He did to me in “I knew His Voice”, but, He will always be present. Sometimes, sitting quietly with you – like two friends so comfortable just being together, no words need to be spoken.
You can ask God to stop the world. But, you can also stop your world to be with Him. Turn off the TV, in fact, cut cable, turn off the music and set down the iPhone (out of sight and reach). And, sit in this quiet room waiting on the Lord.
