“Jesus said to the crowds: “This is how it is with the Kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how.” Mark 4:26–27
The seeds are planted. The harvest is not always a guarantee. Seed can’t take root or grow upon hard soil. The soil must be broken through, turned over and mixed up to be a foundation for a fruitful crop. Like the farmer, at times God must till the earth to break the soil that is the hardness.
What does it mean or look like to the soul for God to ‘till the earth?’ A ‘dark night’, silence, unease in the soul, ‘souring the milk’ are just a few ways God can till the soil of the soul to make it fruitful.
God’s goal is to grow the soul to reach for the Son. He wants the soul to be mature and strong in order to reach Heaven. To be a fruitful field that provides a harvest and seeds for other souls to follow the same Road of Faith.
How can the soul react to this tilling? How about a response of, “You got my attention. I was doing all the talking, now, I’m listening.”
A Dark Night or being broken isn’t the path I’d have chosen but as long as God is leading, I will follow. As long as I’m breathing, I’ll tell God’s story.
Recognize that when it hurt spiritually, God is making your soul able to take the seeds and grow into a fruitful harvest.
