We recently discussed spiritual warfare in our men’s group. So many men and women need to know the boundless power of God is ours as His children.
The Roman army was invincible because of its technology and tactics. As the legions marched into battle, the cohorts stood side by side with shields interlocked, making a near impregnable wall. If the soldier on right or left came under pressure from the enemy, those on both sides would press the attack to defend their compatriot. If one fell, he would be pulled from the battle line to be tended to and recover so as to rejoin the battle. And, immediately another would step up and take his place that the line would remain unbroken.
We must stand side by side. We must carry our shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16) and lock our shield wall tightly with others. In the Catholic Church, the Church Militant, we are blessed to never engage in battle alone. We always have a brother or sister at our side.
One of the greatest things I’ve seen from an Emmaus retreat is this interlocking power. Strong men and women of Faith, walking arm in arm are a force to be reckoned with. But, so many Catholics and Christians walk alone. I’ve seen too many feel they are unlovable, unforgivable and outcasts. They are prime prey for the enemy. A solo Christian is an easy target. But, the power and blessings I’ve seen come from an Emmaus men’s weekend retreat is community and brotherhood.
This brotherhood equates to power and this power bring the invincible power of God’s love, grace and Divine Mercy. In this unity, when one comes under attack those at his side carry them forward to press on to victory. They lift them up and help them get back into the battle. They guide and strengthen the battle line together.
We are armored in Divine Mercy and armed with His Divine Will. The difference between us and even the mightiest earthly army is our King. Our King has already defeated all His enemies. The battle plan of our King is the cross and in the cross is found mighty and overwhelming victory.
I would highly recommend an Emmaus weekend to all men and women. Typically there are several of each offered in Pittsburgh throughout the year, but in Covid, they are currently on holed until Spring 2021. If you’re interested, let me know. I’ll help get you in touch with the ministries’ leadership.
Until then, find a group of like minded men and women to join. Our men’s group meets virtually every Saturday morning from 7:30-9:00 AM through ZOOM.
Absolutely love “interlocking power”! If that doesn’t sum up our call as Christians I don’t know what does! Interlocking power In Christ Forever!
I would love to help publicize the online Emmaus group. Do people who join the meetings need to have first gone through the Emmaus weekend? You can add your online meetings here: https://gnm.org/prayers/add-your-prayer-group/
The Saturday men’s group is open to all Catholic men. There is no current online Emmaus group. Plans are to have the next men’s Emmaus retreat in Spring 2021
Please add meetings here: https://gnm.org/prayers/add-your-prayer-group/ so men can join your online group. There’s a form to fill out.
