“Then he took his staff in his hand, and chose five smooth stones from the wadi, and put them in his shepherd’s bag, in the pouch; his sling was in his hand, and he drew near to the Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:40
Standing against a giant can be a terrifying moment. But, what do you do when your Goliath is within?
I stand before you as a giant slayer. My Goliath has been myself. I am a natural and strong introvert. Through so many years of my life, this introvercy has been overwhelming. It would tear me down from within as it destroyed my self esteem. I could stand up for myself let alone up against myself. To meet a stranger was difficult especially if I had to initiate the meeting. Talking before a group was not an option. My nature made little mistake into a major failing hanging into the guilt for years.
I am not that man any longer. I still feel the ‘demon’ of introvercy and guilt within but now it is defeatable and can even be made the kneel to me. I have stood before many (even thousands) to speak of my faith. I’ve published a very personal book on Amazon (I Knew His Voice) and have done book tours where I’ve told the story to churches and groups. I have no problem now walking up to just about anyone to say hi and then, have the courage to steer the conversation to faith and evangelize. I am not a qualified apostle but that doesn’t stop me for stepping up. My past sin is still there like a little demon on the shoulder trying to draw me into guilt. But, now I am armored and use the ‘guilt’ to move forward not look back.
How did I change so dramatically? The answer is simple – I met Jesus and said yes to His missions for my life.
I slew the Goliath within by the stone of Faith Jesus has provided. I have not overcome this or any giant, it is God Who has overcome and made me who I am and will yet become.
The Goliath within could be introvercy or guilt or fear. The giant is probably huge and loud to you. No matter the giant, God will fight and win the battle and war. He just asks you to be His David, His sling, His instrument.
“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to keep still.” Exodus 14:14
Are you willing to pick up the stone Jesus gives you and take the step forward into battle against Goliath, or even an army of Goliaths and confidently slay that giant – even if it is within? Slay the Goliath within and all giants will fall.
Great article.
I love the article Slaying your Goliath.
