“For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”” Matthew 17:20
“For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”” Luke 17:6
From ‘The Story of a Soul’, St. Therese Liseux’s sister grabbed a drinking glass and a thimble and filled them both with water. She asked Therese which was fuller. Therese admitted that they were both filled to the brim. Their capacity had been reached, and neither the thimble nor the glass could hold a drop more.
I don’t have the faith of the Apostles, I don’t have the faith of the saints. I bring to You, O Lord, all I have. The little faith I carry, I give to You. I ask You, Lord, to multiply what meager offering I bring. Make my faith matter, somehow.
Our meager offerings and the Faith we have may seem small and at times insignificant. The size and amount of faith does not matter to Jesus. The Lord took 5 loaves and 2 fish and fed 5,000 men, not including the women and children. When all were fed to their fill, there were still twelve baskets leftover. It doesn’t matter if we struggle to believe like Thomas or have the faith of David before Goliath. Jesus asks only that we come with whatever faith we can manage. Offer our small basket of faith to God, allow Him to multiply it that others may be fed.
Don’t look at the size of the giant or the terror of the storm and waves, look only to Jesus. Keep your eyes focused upon His eyes. Trust that He will make sure your mustard seed sized faith is enough to move that mountain before you. Trust one who knows, when faith seems weak and scarce, Jesus is getting ready to work. His power shines through the soul whom trusts in weakness and offers it’s only small seed of faith. Whether you bring a great barrel, a mug or dropper of faith, bring your full ‘container’ of faith. Size doesn’t matter to Jesus, only that your bring it all.
“Increase our faith!” Luke 17:5
