“When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:7-13
“For your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” Do you live life with this knowledge? Do you pray knowing the Father already knows your needs?
In my opinion, ultimate act of trust is to show this level of trust in God. When the world is collapsing around you, when you or a loved one is in crisis, Matthew 6:8 is shown when you come to the Father knowing He already knows your needs, fears and worries.
In happy days or tough days, come to God knowing He has things fully in control. Then, my suggestion is to pray, “God, I know You know my needs in this moment and that You are working for my best, so I place all my needs in Your hands, I trust You…”. Then, say the Our Father and repeat the prayer “Jesus, I trust in You” in praise.
Think back through your prayer life on times that you’ve shown this trust as well as those times when your worries and fears and the situation got the best of you. Don’t let those moments of stress weigh largely in your heart. God uses all situations of prayer to grow us closer to Him and to trust the Father more and more. Start with the next prayer to lay your moment (good or bad) at the feet of the Father on His throne. Not only does the Father know what your needs are, but, He already has a great plan for this moment to grow your trust.
