“the fires of Mercy are burning Me, clamoring to be spent” Divine Mercy in my soul # 177
The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us — all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His Divine Mercy.
““Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.” Matthew 7:7
Divine Mercy is free and as abundant as the drops in the oceans. Jesus burns with desire to pour the mercy consuming His Sacred Heart upon the soul. He desires to pour oceans of mercy into your soul. If just one drop of that precious blood is enough to cleanse all sin from the world, imagine the gift of an ocean of mercy given to you.
And, yet, for some reason accepting His Divine Mercy is so difficult for some souls. Their hearts cry out for the desire of forgiveness but feel that only justice is fair for the crimes they’ve committed against God.
Justice is receiving the punishment deserved for a sin. Mercy is benevolence and forgiveness of transgressions.
David said God is “gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in loving-kindness. The LORD is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works” Psalm 145:8-9
Our God is a God of justice, and justice is served for the sins of the soul. But, Jesus took that justice upon Himself that the Father May show mercy upon the soul. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:25
Once, I had a difficult time thinking God could or should show me any mercy. Thinking of the things I had done and the life I had led against Him, I thought I deserved only judgment. I remember the night when I fell on my knees and surrendered my life to Jesus. My prayer was one of fear of judgment. I prayed to Him out of fear of Hell for in my heart I knew that is what I deserved and what my punishment would be at that moment. That night Jesus heard my prayer and covered my sins in His Mercy. It took many years though for me to understand that His Mercy didn’t come with a price upon me. He had paid the price, once and for all.
It wasn’t until years later that I found the Divine Mercy. Actually, that it found me. God is persistent if nothing else. He pursued me relentlessly through all my life and then once I turned to Him, He kept loving me into His Mercy. I was so reluctant to accept mercy freely given. He kept telling me all my sins were washed away but I kept holding on. I picture myself hitting my fists against God’s chest As He would offer His love and mercy. Never hearing the words or accepting that He really forgave me. Then, one day in confession, I heard. I finally heard God’s voice telling me that I am truly forgiven. I looked up and my eyes fell upon the crucifix. Jesus looking at me from His Cross, I saw a tears upon His bruised cheek. He didn’t say a word, He didn’t have to any longer. I saw the price He paid for my sins. I didn’t see this sacrifice as one for the world, but for me alone. And I broke down. My imperfect contrition at that moment crumbled away to perfect love. The fears of hell whispered by the enemy were made clear in their lies by the face of Mercy. Over the lie, I heard the ‘still, small voice’ of THE Truth.
In just a moment, Divine Mercy came clear to me. “ The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to keep still.” Exodus 14:14. I didn’t have to fight against what I had done because the Lord already fought that battle and is victorious. At that moment, I stopped beating against God’s chest and looked into His Eyes of Mercy.
Seek Mercy. The Father sent His Son to earth to give Divine Mercy to you. Jesus came, suffered and died, to give Divine Mercy to you. The Holy Spirit’s cleansing Fire of Mercy is waiting to fall upon you. He desires to give oceans of mercy to the soul. But, you must come to Him, seeking His Mercy. That is the only prerequisite to opening all Mercy’s abundant storehouse. Seek!
