“Interpretation of the inspired Scripture must be attentive above all to what God wants to reveal through the sacred authors for our salvation. What comes from the Spirit is not fully “understood except by the Spirit’s action’” Catechism of the Catholic Church # 137
When you read the Bible, do you read it Genesis to Revelation as a story of your salvation? Of course, the Gospel writings on the Passion, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus are focused upon salvation’s exclamation point. But, the whole Bible tells the story of your salvation.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105
Let the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit’s guidance, walk you through salvation’s story. The more we see God in these words, not just those in red print, the more God lights our path. We can draw such strength for our journey through life.
“My Jesus, again the moment approaches when I will be alone with You. Jesus, I ask You with all my heart, let me know what there is in me that displeases You and also let me know what I should do to become more pleasing to You. Do not refuse me this favor and be with me. I know that without You, Lord, all my efforts will not amount to much. Oh, how I rejoice at Your greatness, O Lord! The more I come to know You, the more ardently I yearn for You and sigh after You!” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 273
Sit down in a quiet place. Lift your soul to God and ask Him to shine the Light upon your Road of Faith. Ask Him to guide you through what you read in Sacred Scripture. Then, read. Read slowly and deliberately. Don’t rush as if just reading a book. The Bible is more than just a book. This is your basic instruction manual. Your ultimate atlas to show you the way along the Road as you travel to salvation’s treasure. Jesus, the Trinity in Heaven.
I guess the first question is, ‘do you read the Bible?’ I pray that is a resounding ‘YES!!’ When read the Scriptures, do you let God speak to you through His words? Do you focus your attention within the New Testament or look for God to reveal Himself through all 73 books of the Bible – in every page? He is there.
Look and listen for God to reveal those little nuggets. Sometimes He will give you a 2×4 moment…other times, a hushed whisper.
Let THE Word guide your through the word.
My favorite Psalm! Amen!
